WOLF OF WALL STREET TALKING HEAD    SCRIPT
The film I am going to talk about is the Wolf Of Wall Street, which is directed by Martin Scorecese and stars Leonardo Di Caprio as the Main character Jordan Belfort who is the hero of this film and this is a true story about a Wall Street stockbroker who conned millions of pounds out of his customers through penny stocks and this film explains the lifestyle he lived and how he got to live it.Arch nemesis in this film is a police man called PC Dunham who keeps trying to get Belfort arrested and fails and his sidekick is man called Donny played by Jonah Hill who he meets in a diner. The dream girl he falls in love with is Naomi played by Margot Robbie plus his old boss is played by Oscar winner Matthew Mconnaghey, who sets him on his way helping him get through the ropes in the stockbroking world, the casting for this film is good as it has some young actors with experienced ones to give it a nice mix as this enables the film to be more realistic as it is a true story so the actors would ave to look the same age as the character for the film to look right. The film starts with a promo for Stratton Oakmont which is a lion on top of a mountain with a dark background to show this company is the king of the jungle(Wall Street)and that this company are top of the Wall Street food chain. The dark background could be used to show the hostile atmosphere of wall street and the dullness of the other companies that exist on the street compared to Stratton Oakmont, which is the company, the main character Jordan Belfort is the owner of and a lion is used as the mascot. The lion is also used to symbolise Jordan Belfort as the leader of the Company as the Lion is stood tall and looking ready for what is ahead just look Belfort in many scenes of the movie. The lion walking through the office is significant as it is showing the lion prowling up and down past the workers just as Belfort does. The juxtaposition this creates is the fact they are both predators and arrogant leaders of what they are involved in.Description: NO NAME:Untitled.tiff The narrator then explains the attitudes of Wall Street comparing the workers to Bears and bulls due to the testosterone that is around in these workplaces. This also shows male dominance as Bulls connotes that only men work in this profession this could show that women were not thought of as being considered for this type of job.Description: NO NAME:wall street sign.tiffThen the film cuts to the offices of the company where Belfort is narrating the first part of the scene when we first see Belfort and he talks about his life at that certain point and it is a still with him in the middle of the frame so we know who he is talking to and a midget throwing contest is taking place which shows how he values other people compared to how he values higher classed people.Description: NO NAME:jordan belfort beginning.tiffBelfort then introduces himself to the audience and explains his achievements and how quickly he achieved them. The film then cuts to Belfort taking part in some activities such as drug taking, prostitutes which show he is a man of money and the fact he drinks expensive champagne shows he lives a high class lifestyle. This also connotes that he is an arrogant man as he doesnt care what his money is spent on and sees it as money to waste and explaining what he needs in a day and what he does then it cuts to when he first started his career at another firm where he is introduced to Mark Hanna the leader of this firm who teaches Belfort the ways of Wall Street. A scene that interests me is when Belfort goes for lunch with Hanna and Hanna teaches Belfort the main behaviour of a wall street stockbroker instructing him on how much drugs he should be taking and what he should do to keep himself awake but the main part of this scene is when Hanna starts pumping his chest with his fist bursting out into a song and this is good as the lighting is natural from the windows and the diegetic sounds are the sound of the chest being hit and the humming plus the singing and the framing is good as both of the main characters are in the middle so this shows the focus on the teaching of Belfort by Hanna to help him through his Wall street Experience and the shots used are close ups on the two characters so you can still see some of the body language too see how they are with each other to see if they get on or not. The composition of the scene is good as it is just the two characters sitting at a table and this effective at it can show that they want to get to know each other on a friendship basis and can also show the foundations to a friendship if it is just these two characters. The way Hanna is more confident than Belfort at this point
Description: NO NAME:Untitled.tiffShows us the difference in levels of experience as Hanna is always talking whil belfort sits there thinking of what to say without offending his boss. Also during this scene Hanna is also seen snorting cocaine which shows he is a stereotypical wall street stockbroker and the way that Belfort smiles in agreement as if to say he doesnt know how to take Hanna at this moment and doesnt want to offend him. The props used here are plates with food on, a table and some wine and champagne bottles with glasses to signify them being of a high social class.According to Mark Hanna you have to masturbate enough, take drugs to keep focused but also be able to relaxed when times get stressful. This also shows off Hannas arrogant side and that he doesnt live in the real world.
Description: NO NAME:hanna.jpgA scene that interests me is when Belfort asks his friends to sell him a pen the others try to be all specific but brad comes and says write you’re name on this napkin but Belfort replies I haven’t got a pen which brad replies with here you go then supply and demand. This a memorable scene as it shows how people can be easily persuaded and it also shows how being persuasive and clever can get you far in this certain business as the right use of word is key. The framing in this scene is key as Brad is in the middle of the frame and the light is bright by him when he is being clever by selling the pen in a way that nobody else thought of so this shown the importance of this quote when the camera is mainly on him.The composition of one part of the scene shows all of Belfort’s cronies in a diner having some lunch while discussing business techniques so this can show how low they started and the fact they are all sitting together shows how close the group are as they let each other speak and no one interrupts. The casual use of swearing during this scene shows that the group dont care about others around them due to how rich they are.The arrogance of Brad is also very high due to the fact he doesnt care what people think about what he does and he doesnt care about consequences. The lighting used is from the set of the diner like the advertising boards and the diner’s lights what they need to brighten the place up. The types of sound used is diegetic which is the voices and sauce bottles being used.
Another scene that interests me is the scene where Jordan and Donny take out of date Quaaludes and they take a while to work but after 90minutes they work and have a bad effect and the acting here is clever how they handle themselves the way they have to slur their speech so this must of taken some effort and the camera zooms in to their faces to show the froff coming out of their mouths showing how strong these drugs were. The stage that is referred to as the cerebral palsy stage is when the characters are at their worst but this is a controversial name for it as it is offensive to some groups of people. The cross cutting from character to character is good as it shows Plenty of research must of went on for them to act in the correct way from the side effects that would of actually happened and the close ups of the effects can show how this certain drug effected these characters. The props used here are phones and food as it is in a house so these are items you would expect. The lighting of this scene is natural as it is in a house so the house light and sunlight were the lighting used. Description: NO NAME:drugged up.jpeg
The scene I like the most is the plane flight that is boarded by Belfort and the state that most of the characters get in as Belfort wakes up with extra seat belts after what the way he behaved during the flight and this is a funny scene as when they show the flash backs to show he has remembered it shows us why he did get strapped to the seat due to the way he treated staff but the scene is funny as he has no idea. This scene also develops on his drug problem as it shows that his behaviour is out of control due the extent of The way the camera focuses on the bad behaviour and the activities that take place is good as it shows the effects what the activities they engaged. The non-diegetic sound used is the music added and the diegetic sounds are the screaming and shouting from the party the air hostesses.
The ending of Wolf of Wall Street shows Belfort being arrested for the crimes he committed and the detective he sussed him out is shown smiling this shows the significance of Belfort and then cuts to Dunham going home on a bus and Belfort going to prison on a prison bus so this is a powerful scene as Dunham could be worried about Belfort going from riches to rags. The last part ends with Belfort delivering a seminar on business and asks the audience to sell him a pen, which was used earlier in the film so this shows that nobody was quick enough to repeat what brad said earlier on in the film so this shows some nostalgia as it is Belfort reminiscing about the past so this connotes that he still thinks about his past glory.

The Cast:

·       Mackenzie Meehan as Hildy Azoff[19][20][21]
·       Spike Jonze as Dwayne

As you can see there are some notable names in this cast who stand out right away like Leonardo Di Caprio, Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Joanna Lumley and Cristin Milloti and all these actors appeal to different audiences and if their audiences follow this actor it will gain the film more viewers and revenue. However the director is Martin scorsese who is one of the biggest directors for true story adaptations and has a vast reputation.
The enigma in this story is the main character Jordan Belfort as him himself is a man of mystery and you never know what stunt he is going to pull off next so this adds to the story, as it is interesting to see how he got to where he was before his world rocked when he was arrested but it would be good to see how he got away with what he did. He is also the enigma of the film as he is a hard person to unravel to see what his edge is over the other firms and how he made so much money by such a young age.
The costume in this film is an important item as it shows the era this film is based in and shows the level of wealth and the class of a certain person and group. The main items of clothing for the male characters in this film are suits, ties, V-neck jumpers, leathers shoes, boots and for some of the less class characters jeans and t-shirts at the beginning but then become smarter. Also when not working the clothes wore by the higher-class characters are t-shirts, polo’s, and argyle sweaters, suit trousers and smart shoes to signify the money they have and they can mostly be clothes of good designers to show they can afford the best garments. The accents of the main characters are strong New York accents, which is where this film is set to show the distinctiveness from the characters who are from elsewhere.
The settings used in this film are mainly luxurious and very extravagant like; Californian beaches, beach houses, boats, big Swiss banks, Wall Street offices, large mansions and country clubs. The settings I listed above show the money available to the main characters at certain parts of the film, as these are not places where anybody can turn up. However some scenes that show big boats and outside beach parties are done by special effects as it would be a lot harder to film in some of these locations like in a rough sea or in a sizzling summer house so sometimes compromises are made but the effects are so high class they look realistic so this gives the film a better scenery rather than filming in different climates and locations. The soundtrack of this film fits in as the music is fast tempo like the film and fits in with the era of time as it sounds grand and upbeat to fit in with the style of film because if the music was slow it would mess up the film but the music is perfect because the lyrics in some of the songs reflect the attitudes and behaviours in songs such as baby got back about womens reaers which is what the characters always talk about.Double dutch is also an example of a upbeat song that sounds like a song which an arrogant man would enjoy due it its upbeat sound and it sounds grand due to the guitar used.. The music is both new and old to reflect that music from different eras can sound pretty similar. The use of 90s music can give some audience members a nostalgic feeling which could be a god technique to use as the audience members could be reminiscent to the certain music. Finally a well known song used in this film is boom boom boom by the outwhere brothers which is an iconic 90s song and is a dance song to show the pace of the film and the lyrics in this song talk about sexual activity just like the characters do in the movie

Hot Fuzz

My favorite film Soundtrack

The Firm(2009)-
This is my favorite soundtrack as it a modern film that uses music from the 80s to show what time period the film is set in and the style of music is quick tempo as the film is fast paced so the music is well suited and the effect the soundtrack has is nostalgia as it makes you want to go back to that certain era.The music also fits in with the group of people the film is about which is football hooligans so this is music that was associated with them is this era.The instruments used in this soundtrack are synthesizers, guitars and computers to help create the tempo and atmosphere of the film. This is my favourite soundtrack as the music is upbeat and creates a good mood for the film and shows what music was in trend when football hooliganism was in the prime of its existence.

Sci-fi soundtracks

E.T-
Instruments used in the soundtrack for this film are synthesizers violins, bass, cello, harps, flutes, clarinets and drums as the music in this soundtrack is of both high and low pitch and this variety if instruments can help achieve the right sounds they needed for this music. The tempo is fast when exciting parts of the film occur but when the film is slow the music is too but the music has a space like  kind of feel which is good for this film as that is the style of music needed to fit in with is genre as you would not have folk music in this style of film. The duration of the music is anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 minutes depending on what is happening in this film.

Star Wars-
The instruments used in this soundtrack are pianos, synthesizers ,flutes ,organs ,guitars and drums to give the music the dramatic feel for when conflicts are taking place and for when leading up to the conflicts. The tempo of music in the Star Wars series is very diverse as at one point the music will be slow when the characters are talking but when something is about to happen the music starts to get quicker so this signifies that something is happening when the tempo quickens during one of the star wars episodes and the duration of the music is between 30 seconds to 2 minutes for when two characters are in conflict the music lasts the
whole duration to add effect and builds the atmosphere.

2001: A space odyssey-
The instruments used in this soundtrack are synthesizers and an orchestra as these help give the music an out of this world feel and the tempo differs in different parts of the film as at one points its slow but at an other its fast and the pitch of the music is both high and low to give the music a freaky feel and give it the style to fit in with the certain style of film and the duration of the music varies in different scenes

Various film soundtracks

Trainspotting-

Instruments used were synthetic in some songs as they used default instrument sounds from a computer but in some of the older songs instruments were guitar, drums and piano.
The tempo of the music is quick when they are out clubbing or when something good is happening but when negative events occur the tempo slows down but the tempo overall is quick due to the mood of the film
The effect the soundtrack has is good as it shows the changes of music trend throughout the years the film is based in and also helps the film justify its target audience.

The Wolf of Wall Street-

Instruments used in these songs are computer generated in some of the newer songs used, but the instruments heard in the other songs are guitars, pianos , synthesizers, maracas and drums.
The tempo of all the songs throughout this film are upbeat and quick to signify the mood of the main character Jordan Belfort throughout the film and the music also helps shape the genre of the film and the audience that it will attract to this film as people often watch films as they're favorite song has been used in it.
The effect the soundtrack has on the film is positive as it helps shape the mood of the film and entices the viewer as a good film with a bad soundtrack would not entice the viewer so having the music this film has will ensure the viewer will not be disgusted.

Titanic-

The instruments used in the soundtrack for this film are guitars, pianos, flutes, harps, clarinets and tambourines.
The tempo of this soundtrack is slow as it is a romantic film so the tempo will not be fast as it will disrupt the events that are taking place during the film as the film is a slow film so the music used fits in with the style of film otherwise the music would not make sense with a fast paced film. The tempo is also slow to show the passion and love between the two main characters jack and rose so this a good use of music. The effect this soundtrack is good as it is emotional to fit in with the film so it builds up more emotion and the soundtrack helps Titanic become a tear jerker.

The Lion King-

The instruments used in this soundtrack are steel drums , flutes , guitars and pianos and an orchestra.
The tempo of this soundtrack is slow and fast as when the fight scenes take place between scar and musafa the tempo slows giving the tenseness to the atmosphere but when Simba is playing around in the wild the music is upbeat and happy to signify his mood.and when Timon and Pumba are together the atmosphere turns happy and the pace quickens but when musafa dies the music saddens. The effect the soundtrack has is positive songs from this film are well recognized  even though the music was made specifically made for this film but were mad by two great musicians Hans Zimmer and Elton John and the songs used are emotional at times but uplifting and happy most of the time.

Touching the Void Musical

The music at the start of the scene is tense as he is climbing to the top of the crevasse so this shows that he is involved in a challenge as it shows how tense the situation is for him and this is boosted by the diegetic sound from the crunching snow and breathing so this adds to the music.
When the scene cuts from the climbing to the mountain landscape and there is a crescendo when the music builds to the climax when they get to the bright landscape. The music goes from being tense to being uplifting to show a change in fortune and is a motif as the music gets more upbeat when the mountains are being shown. As he escapes the crevasse the music goes still to show the mood is now calm and as the camera shows the rest of the scenery the music intensifies to show that there is still a big challenge ahead of him

The use of music in film

Using music in film is a good idea as it allows you to express the emotion of the characters further than what the actors can show. Music can be used to set the scene and show what time period the music is from as you wouldn't play a Skrillex song in a 1960 mod film and you wouldn't play a happy song just after someone has been killed or when a fight has broken out so you have to choose the right music for the film. There are two types of music used a musical score which is music used to exaggerate the mood to build up the scene and can express unspoken events like emotions and conflicts. The other type of music used is a song what can be used to open the film and set the scene and songs are sometimes created for a specific film or are existing songs that can fit in with the film.Songs are used to emphasise the characters moods and helps them express emotion when thy have no other way too and show the time period and genre of the film.

sherlock homes

Slow tempo music at the start and fast tempo by the end
the music is non diegetic as it has been added after filming so is un natural and not included in the scenery and is also an asynchronous sound as it does not come from the scene
horse neighing and galloping is diegetic as it is natural and fits in with the scene
the carts shuddering and wheels moving along the floor are diegetic sounds as they fit in with the visuals and are synchronous sounds as they have other sounds beneath them to re-inforce the sound.
gun loading is a natural sound so it is diegetic as it is the sound of a gun which is a real object.
running is a synchronous and diegetic sound as the feet hitting the floor adds to the sound
tense music used to show the mood and atmosphere in this scene.
crow is natural as it is an animal
fall sound is synchronous as it is boosted by the ambient sound
glass being smashed is diegetic as it actually happens
