Who's the new Braveheart Darling or Salmond? You decide!!!!

The 18th September will be a date to put in the history books as the final decision on Scottish independence will finally be made. So this will be a major day for the whole of the United Kingdom as if they vote yes this could have major repercussions. This could cut the Scottish economy due to the money they make from being part of the United Kingdom and could cause prices of Scottish exports to increase. Also, if yes is voted, the population of Scotland who voted no may leave this country, causing lots of jobs to be unfilled with less people to fill the roles and the money situation could be difficult as they may lose their currency, the pound and with them joining the euro this could cause money problems. If Scotland separate from the UK they will also not be entitled to use the Union Flag.

Good things from the yes vote will be that Scotland can decide what they want to do with policies and won't be influenced by another country. This can also help Scotland as they can carry on with their own rules and laws, they would be their own state and could decide how they want to be run as a country. The Scots will also have their own parliament to decide what happens there and how it happens.

Alex Salmond is the leader of the Scottish National Party and is leading the yes party as he is a strong Scottish Nationalist who wants this country to be separate so they can have more power as a single country. The SNP was a fringe movement before Salmond took over in 1990 and since then he has bought this party to the highest level possible. He believes in Scotland having enhanced devolution so this is a strong belief in him to get Scotland as much power as he can so it shows he does not want to depend on England as a source of income or to have the same laws and policies to show that Scotland can thrive as their own. Alistair Darling is the leader of the No campaign and is a former Labour MP and believes in Scotland staying part of the United Kingdom. He is pro- Britain and has worked in the British government for many years, but also labour were the largest party in Scotland so he could see this as some revenge on the SNP.
The BBC has shown a Panorama episode based on the Scottish referendum where it can be seen as a biassed opinion for Scotland to vote no as the BBC are a British organization so they will be biassed towards that one opinion. This is shown by the way they talk about Mr Salmond is negative and they put all positives about staying in Britain and hardly any of the yes parties' views. This is shown when they talk about how in the 70s how pro British Scotland were and how unlikely they thought a referendum would be.

The yes party campaign video was done in a great way. It shows a young girl growing up and talking about the good things that could come from this and asks rhetorical questions -  'What kind of country will I grow up in?' One of importance or one that ceases to exist? This is a great use of propaganda and repetition to make the situations in this video play on your mind, to try and lure you in. Another thing that Salmond has done well is boost the amount of Scottish MPs in British parliament.

My opinion on this whole situation is that I couldn't care less to be honest, I don't bother with the English government as David Cameron moans about everything and is even begging for Scotland to stay British but to be honest, who cares? Politics is one of the things I have never been interested in as it does not have anything fun involved so why would I care about another country's decision I would only care if it was my country involved.

First Day

I am Reece Baker and I am 17 years old. I am doing this course as I am interested in the media industry and the aspects of media I have a major interest in are producing, editing and writing as writing allows me to express my imagination. The dreams I wish I could are to pass university and have a good reputation in the media industry but as a back up plan I would become a DJ for parties and other functions with the dreams of making it big time as music is one of my biggest passions. The editing and writing side of media interest me as it allows you to have freedom and jot down the ideas you have that could end up helping you and editing as it allows you to use the best parts of your work to make it even better. The part of media I enjoy the most is programming as it allows you to showcase your work in the best way if you have programmed the segments of work correctly.
This is my first week at sccb as i was at solihull college last year studying radio so I thought I would come to this course as I want to broaden my knowledge of media so that I will build a big enough understanding to use this knowledge later in life.
